Online Banking Security Update

Update your browser today

We are making a change to our security protocol. NWSB Bank will be officially retiring TLS 1.0 security protocol support on all of our services in order to align with industry best practices and ensure that your data continues to be highly secure.

TLS stands for “Transport Layer Security.” It is a protocol that provides privacy and data integrity between two communicating applications. It’s the most widely deployed security protocol used today, and is used for web browsers and other applications that require data to be securely exchanged over a network.

On May 3, 2018 we will disable the TLS 1.0 encryption protocol, which may prevent those of you who still use it from utilizing some or all of your online and mobile banking functionality. This means that you may need to upgrade your browsers to disable TLS 1.0 and use TLS 1.1 or higher, but this change will not affect you in any other way. You can test your TLS “score” by visiting this website. We aim for this process to be as smooth and simple as possible. Our primary goal in this effort is to maintain the highest possible security standards and help keep your data secure.

Additional Information

Android:
Users operating on Android version KitKat (4.4) and lower, which includes about 20% of the U.S. population according to current usage patterns, may be impacted by the disablement of TLS 1.0 as these versions do not support TLS 1.1 and 1.2. Upgrading to Lollipop (5.0) or higher will fix this issue and support TLS 1.1 and 1.2. P

Browsers:
Please reference the chart below for browser versions that support TLS 1.1. and higher. If you are using a browser version that is lower than those listed below, you may not be able to access some or all of your online banking services.

On the May 3, 2018 cut-off date, all systems will be changed so TLS 1.0 traffic will be redirected to a page that will say “Stronger Security is Required.” The message might be in the browser window or it might appear in the tab of the browser as seen below.  The “Stronger Security is Required” page was implemented to ensure a secure connection to your banking application was enforced.

We aim for this process to be as smooth and simple as possible. Our primary goal in this effort is to maintain the highest possible security standards and help keep your data secure. If you need additional information please phone the contact center at 1.844.822.NWSB (6972) or visit your local NWSB Bank office.
