ATM and Debit Card Security
Be proactive to keep your information secure:
- Treat your card as if it were cash and always keep it secured from others.
- Never lend your card to anyone.
- Sign your card as soon as you receive it. DO NOT write your PIN on the card.
- Keep your contact information current so we can call you if we suspect fraudulent activity on your account or card.
- Review your account activity regularly through online, mobile or telephone banking, as well as by reviewing your monthly statement and report fraudulent activity immediately.
- Shred all statements and documents containing your debit and credit card information.
- Report a lost or stolen card immediately.
- Obtain your free annual credit report to look for unauthorized cards opened in your name.
- Keep personal records, payroll information, insurance files, checkbooks and cards stored securely from others. Identity fraud is often committed by friends, family, roommates, employees, live-in caregivers and other individuals working in or around your home or place of business
ATM and Retail Store Tips
- Never allow the cashier or anyone else to enter the PIN for you.
- When in line, shield your card from others around you and block others from watching you enter your PIN number.
- Observe your surroundings when using a Drive-Up or Walk-Up ATM. Only use machines in well lit locations.
- Minimize your time at the Drive-Up or Walk-Up ATM by having your card out and ready to use. Collect your money, card and receipt and immediately leave the ATM. Do not count your money at the ATM.
- Watch for fraudulent devices attached to the ATM. If the ATM looks different and appears to have alterations to the card slot or PIN pad, or has additional items attached to it, do not use it. It’s common for criminals to put skimming equipment on top of ATM hardware to read cards as they are inserted in to the machine. In these situations, additional marketing advertisement holders may be attached to the machine as well so the criminal can point a camera at the PIN pad to capture video of PINs being entered.
Online & Email Tips
- Never enter your card information on a webpage that pops up or displays unexpectedly. Only enter your card information on a page that displays “https” in the website address and is related to a purchase you initiated.

- Never respond to emails that request your card information. These are called “phishing” scams and legitimate companies would not ask you to provide your card information in this manner.
- REMEMBER, NWSB Bank will never email you asking for your card or other personal information. If you receive a suspicious email, please contact us immediately.
- Do not give out your card information over the phone unless you initiated the call.
- Be on the alert for automated calls stating there is a problem with your card. If the call asks you to enter your full card number, expiration date and 3-digit code on the back of the card, it is probably a scam.
- Be cautious of solicitation calls asking for a donation using your card or direct debit from your checking account. Contact a worthy cause yourself rather than responding to random telefunding requests.
Remember, NWSB Bank will never:
- Call, email or text you asking for your Online Banking password, Wire PIN, token codes, account numbers or debit card numbers. If you receive such a call, email or text message, do NOT give out any information.
- Direct you to a website that asks you to update your personal account information.
- Send an email to you containing computer software updates.
- Visit your place of business and request to perform maintenance on your computer.
Important: If you receive a phone call, email or text message that you question, please take the time to call and ask us to validate the communication before taking any other action. Do not use the contact information provided in the email or text message that you receive. Use the number advertised on our web site or on the back of your debit/credit card so you know you are speaking to us.

Internet Explorer Support
Starting January 12, 2016, Microsoft will only provide security updates for the most current version of Internet Explorer available for a supported operating system. What does that mean?
